LOCKDOWN – some relief offered to Overstrand businesses, households

At a meeting of the Overstrand Municipal Council held on Wednesday, Council resolved that businesses and residential customers who find themselves in financial stress as a result of the lockdown and cannot pay their accounts due for March 2020 and/or April 2020, may enter into an extended term of payment agreement.

Overstrand Businesses:

“Businesses who find themselves under financial stress and cannot pay their accounts due for March 2020 and April 2020, may enter into an extended term of payment agreement in terms of the Overstrand Customer Care, Credit Control and Debt Collection Policy in order for their payments to be done over a period of 6 months without the payment of a deposit,” explained Municipal spokesperson, Riana Steenekamp.

She said that businesses who would like to discuss an exemption must motivate same and send it to enquiries@overstrand.gov.za. Application forms for this purpose can be obtained from enquiries@overstrand.gov.za.

Residential:

Steenkamp added that residential customers who find themselves under financial stess as a result of the lockdown and cannot pay their accounts for March 2020 and/or April 2020, may also enter into an extended payment agreement in terms of the Overstrand Customer Care, Credit Control and Debt Collection Policy in order to pay these accounts, over a 12 month period without the payment of a deposit.

“Application forms for this purpose can be obtained from enquiries@overstrand.gov.za. Kindly note, applications should be accompanied by a detailed explanation and motivation.”

Tenants:

Steenkamp said all tenants of the Municipality who cannot make use of the leased premises, for the purpose it is leased for, such as business premises, stalls, etc. will be exempted from the payment of their rental for the months of April 2020 and May 2020.

Important:

“During the lockdown any Municipal staff member who needs to call on residents or businesses will carry an official Overstrand identity tag,” she said. 

“Essential municipal services will continue during the lockdown period.”

This includes:

  • Refuse removal
  • Water
  • Electricity
  • Traffic management
  • Law enforcement
  • Fire services

“The 24-hour control room number (028 313 8111) will remain fully operational. Please be safe and remain healthy – remember the virus is not under control yet.”
