Update: East London got Thursday’s rain, flow to Mandela Bay dams slows down

In its latest update on rainfall over the Eastern Cape, the Port Elizabeth office of the South African Weather Service on Friday said that the only noteworthy rainfall figure on Thursday was recorded in East London.

It said that 21mm of rain fell over the city.

“This brings up a respectable total for the month thus far to 60mm,” said Garth Sampson, the SA Weather Service’s Client Liaison Officer for the Eastern Cape.

“Unfortunately, the inflow into the Kouga dam has slowed to 7.2 cubic meters per second passing past Stuurmanskraal.

“In fact, the total capacity has dropped by 0.15%, due to increased usage.”

Sampson said the flow to the Churchill has also slowed and only rose 3.5% in the last 24 hours.
