Sarah Baartman District Municipality appoints first female Municipal Manager

From 1 June 2022, Ms Unati Daniels officially takes over the reigns as Municipal Manager of Sarah Baartman District Municipality (SBDM).

Her appointment is a landmark event in the history of the municipality as there has never been a female municipal manager before.

Daniels is not entirely new to the role as she has acted in the position several times during her position as Director: Planning and Economic Development.

She is preceded by Mr Ted Pillay who held the position of Municipal Manger from 2002 – 2022.

Ms Daniels started her career with the municipality in 2003 when she was appointed as the Skills Development Facilitator by Cacadu District Municipality which would later be renamed to Sarah Baartman District Municipality.

In 2005, Ms Daniels was appointed as Manager: Capacity Building and Support and in 2018 she was appointed as Director Planning and Economic Development.

She has a master’s in development studies from Nelson Mandela University and is well-experienced in local government.

The Executive Mayor upon appointing her remarked that “Unati will be a valuable asset to the district. We are confident that she will take the district to new heights. Having a female leader is a first for our district and we are so proud of her.”
