Proudly South African, Woman’s month is all about celebrating the woman of our country. Specifically, we celebrate National Women’s Day on the 9th of August, a powerful day signifying equal rights in South Africa.
Women’s Day celebrates the strength and resilience of women and their contribution to society and country.
On this backdrop, SAICA Enterprise Development (SAICA ED) was proud to attend and be part of a wonderful initiative hosted by Cennergi Services in the Bedford community for over 100 of its ladies on Tuesday 9 August. Cennergi Services is the owner of Amakhala Emoyeni Windfarm (AE01), which is between Bedford & Cookhouse community.
This Women’s dialogue event was held at the Msobomvu Hall in Bedford -Raymond Mhlaba Municipality and was initiated by Cennergi Services in recognition of the role played by women. The event’s aim was to work closer with the Bedford Women Forum as well as bringing hope and upliftment to the community.
“As Cennergi Services we are committed to working together with the affected communities for the generation of electricity & development of their communities,” says Cennergi Services CEO, Mr D Du Plessis.
Other guests along with SAICA ED included Zakwantu Projects & Services, Eastern Cape Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA, EC) as well as the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT, EC) Special guest, Dr Vuyolwethu Nkohla provided the keynote address. It was noted that Nkohla also came from a very similar rural background never-the-less she went after her dreams, worked hard and attained her PhD.
In an inspiring word Dr Nkohla commented, “Never allow your circumstance to determine your future, you are in charge.”
Furthermore a very informative session was given by DEDEATs newly appointed directory, Vuyelwa Mantyi, who made special note on the important role that the local women play and to inform everyone about their services and funding opportunities within their departments.
SAICA ED was asked to share an overview on the business and finance skills training we provide as part of our small business support programmes.
“We are proud to be part of the Enterprise Development initiative with the Amakhala Emoyeni Windfarm as they strive to make lasting impact in their surrounding communities. Entrepreneurship is a very realistic alternative to mainstream employment.
“Small Business development is key to building our economy, and even more so we encourage woman-owned business owners to take charge and accountability for their small businesses,” comments Jill Johnson, Senior Executive at SAICA Enterprise Development.
