GuestLock Solutions is extending its offering to hotels across South Africa, combining internationally manufactured hotel key cards with Cape Town-based warehousing, creative support and local customer service. The company supplies hotels, resorts, lodges and accommodation groups with branded access cards designed to meet operational requirements while offering greater choice in design, materials and sustainability. Although GuestLock is a relatively new name in the South African market, its products and manufacturing capabilities are established internationally. The business has already secured supplier agreements with several high-end hospitality properties in Cape Town and beyond.
More Than Just a Room Key
A hotel key card is one of the first physical items a guest receives at check-in. GuestLock believes it can do more than provide access: it can also reinforce a hotel’s identity through its logo, colours, imagery and material choice. “Hotels put a lot of thought into the details that shape the guest experience,” says Ant Pascoe, BizDev Manager
at GuestLock Solutions. “The key card is handled repeatedly throughout a stay. There’s no reason it should be treated as just another generic item.”
Alongside conventional PVC, GuestLock offers alternatives including recycled PVC, plant-based PPH BioBoard, bamboo and selected FSC-certified wooden cards. These options allow hotels to consider different aesthetics and materials in line with their brand, budget and environmental objectives.
Compatibility Comes First
Whatever the design or material, a hotel key card must work with the property’s existing electronic locking system. Different systems can require different RFID technologies and encoding configurations, so cards that look identical are not necessarily interchangeable.
GuestLock works with internationally manufactured cards specified for compatibility with major hospitality locking systems. Technical requirements are confirmed before production to help ensure the selected card is appropriate for the installation.
“An access card has to look good, but above all it has to work,” says Pascoe. “We identify the hotel’s existing system, confirm the technical requirements and then specify the appropriate card.”
Where compatible products are available, hotels can explore new designs, materials or suppliers without necessarily changing their existing locking infrastructure.
Branded Key Card Holders
GuestLock also supplies high-quality, competitively priced, custom-printed cardboard key card holders. These branded sleeves complement the key card and provide another opportunity to reinforce a hotel’s identity at check-in. Hotels can order holders together with their key cards or purchase them separately, providing flexibility when sourcing new products or replenishing existing supplies.
International Products, Local Support
With warehousing, creative input and customer support in Cape Town, GuestLock offers South African hospitality businesses a local point of contact for product enquiries, design assistance, samples and supply requirements.
The company aims to build lasting relationships with independent properties and hotel groups by combining international product capabilities with responsive local service.
“South African hospitality is sophisticated and internationally minded,” says Pascoe. “We believe hotels should have access to a broad choice of products, backed by the convenience of a local partner who understands their requirements.”
GuestLock is now extending its service offering to hospitality businesses throughout South Africa.
