The Sandton Tourism & Business Association, in collaboration with Joburg Tourism, recently hosted the first of a series of intimate breakfast sessions with MMC Lawrence Khoza, City of Joburg Department of Economic Development, at Hilton Sandton.
In addressing the members, MMC Khoza said that he recognised the importance of the tourism sector. His message to those present was, “What do we as the City need to do for you to make tourism happen again?”
He also said that business needs to stop blaming Covid and work to create a differentiated offering.
The MMC’s department is working to unlock investment in different areas to create new tourism avenues, such as medical, mining and sports tourism.
His office is working to engage with the private sector to develop tourism as they recognise the challenge in getting the economy functioning on every level again.
The breakfast sessions are a forum for members and business leaders to engage directly with the MMC on issues related to tourism and how the City is assisting to regenerate business.
