Ceres Rail Company has officially announced the addition of “The Mossel Bay Explorer” to its fleet of heritage rail experiences. Departing Thursday, 7 May 2026, this new six-day premium service marks a significant expansion in the company’s regional tourism offering, connecting Cape Town directly to the heart of the Garden Route via vintage rail.
The “Mossel Bay Explorer” is positioned as a high-end heritage adventure, utilizing classic lounge and observation coaches to provide a unique perspective of the Western Cape’s agricultural and mountain landscapes. The service emphasizes operational heritage, with planned steam haulage (subject to availability) and a comprehensive logistics package.


Operational Details & Logistics:
- Dates: 7 May – 12 May 2026.
- Route: Cape Town – Worcester – Swellendam – Mossel Bay (Round Trip).
- Inclusions: 4 days of vintage rail travel, 5 nights of hotel accommodation, daily breakfast, and selected onboard catering/transfers.
- Pricing: R24 750 per person (incl. VAT).
Strategic Itinerary: The journey commences with a scenic route to Swellendam, followed by an arrival in Mossel Bay where passengers have a full day for leisure or local business exploration. The return leg features an onboard wine tasting session before an early evening arrival in Cape Town on Tuesday, 12 May.
