Imraan Choonara Honoured with Visionary Leader Award at Men of Valour Awards

On 14 December 2024, at the Men of Valour Awards held at The Maslow Hotel in Johannesburg, Imraan Choonara was honoured with the highest award of the night — the Visionary Leader Award. The award recognises his wide-reaching contribution to society through his work in leadership, community building and mentoring the next generation.

The event gathered men from across South Africa to recognise what true courage and responsibility look like in a time when masculinity is often misunderstood. Imraan Choonara reminded those present that real strength is not loud words or showy acts but daily actions that protect and uplift others.

“Most men live lives of quiet desperation,” Imraan Choonara said in his remarks. “Real valour is not the absence of fear. It is action in spite of fear. You feel it but you stand firm anyway.”

Imraan Choonara spoke about the lessons passed down by his father. He shared how his father’s steady example shaped how he shows up as a father, husband and leader. “My father taught me that valour is quiet but clear. It is there every day when we protect and serve those in our care,” he said.

The Men of Valour Awards was more than a celebration — it was a reminder that the world needs men who stand firm when life gets hard. Imraan Choonara believes true men are selfless and do not live for ego. They live to protect, provide and guide the people who depend on them.

In a time when masculinity is often questioned, Imraan Choonara’s message was clear. “Being a man of valour does not mean you always lead from the front. It means you take care of those who rely on you. Responsibility takes courage. And courage costs comfort,” he said.

He called on all men to accept that no man is perfect but that striving for better is what matters most. “We need to be the example for boys who watch us. They need to see what real masculinity looks like — strong, steady and selfless,” Imraan Choonara said.
The Men of Valour Awards closed with a call to action: the world does not need more men who run from hard things. It needs men who stand strong when it counts and lead their families and communities with quiet courage and care.
