SAB facilitates investment into new R2.6bn brewery in Mozambique

On Thursday 1 April 2021, Mozambican Head of State, Filipe Nyusi, inaugurated a new brewery for Cervejas de Moçambique (CDM), located in Marracuene district, Maputo province.

As a fellow member of the AB-InBev family, the South African Breweries (SAB) acted as a key facilitator of this new facility as part of its commitment to continental growth.

A decision that was taken based on the countries fiscal stability and favourable investment framework.

The modern facility is the largest investment in the sector in Mozambique, totaling R1.7bn, and features modern production, packaging and filling technologies.

It has an initial production capacity of approximately 2.4 million hectoliters, which may be expanded over time to up to 6.7 million hectoliters as market needs evolve.

The brewery also has a filling line with the capacity to produce 8,800 (eighty thousand) bottles per hour, making it the largest line of the ABInBev group in the entire African continent.

The investment will have a significant impact on the Mozambican national economy, by extending the trade and agriculture value chains, creating new jobs and increasing state revenues.

During the construction phase, between 2018 and 2021, 2 730 jobs were created and during the start-up period of production, the brewery generate 300 direct jobs.
