The Peninsula All-Suite Hotel now offers off-site housekeeping services

The Peninsula All-Suite Hotel

In a bold attempt to retain their employees, The Peninsula All-Suite Hotel, a four-star landmark in Cape Town, is now offering off-site housekeeping services and household repair work.

“What we’ve learnt during the current situation is that everything that happens is a chance to move forward, to see the good in a situation, and most of all, to actively create opportunities instead of waiting for them,” says Chris Godenir, General Manager of the hotel.

With hygiene, health and safety a strong focus during COVID-19, Godenir and his team realized that they had the necessary skills, expertise and equipment to extend their services to the local community – instead of waiting for travel restrictions to ease and for business to come to them.

The Peninsula’s new off-site service includes the professional cleaning of local offices, business operations and residences such as homes and apartments within a 5 km radius of the hotel.

A three-hour clean will cost R350 and includes the transport of two staff members with their necessary personal protective gear, as well as all the detergents and cleaning equipment.

As an additional value-add, there is also a laundry service available for difficult to clean household items (for example, curtains, bedding and cushions), which are washed and folded at R50 per kg, including collection and delivery.

“A full decontamination can also be arranged by special request, as well as a ‘handyman’ service to assist with any additional maintenance issues,” explains Godenir.

“And while the team cleans your home or office, you can even come through to The Peninsula and keep working with peace of mind, knowing that you are helping to keep food on the table for our current staff,” he adds.

Godenir and his team have set up dedicated workstations on-site as well as converting self-contained ground floor (ocean-view) suites into offices for remote teams looking for a change of scenery.

Aside from the cleaning service, Godenir maintains that and he and his team will continue to seek out new business opportunities in order to retain his staff, stating that retrenchment is simply not an option.

“We want to be more than just a hotel. We want our efforts to create something of value and consequence,” he concludes.
