The Coega Development Corporation (CDC) on Wednesday night walked away with the 2019 Employer of the Year Award at the prestigious 17th annual National Business Awards 2019.

Considered the Oscars of South African business, the award ceremony was held at the Emperors Palace, in Ekurhuleni.

“This means a lot to the organisation, it speaks to how the organisation is determined to ensure that we remain on top of our game and provides a conducive environment for our employees,” says Zola Ngoma, CDC’s Unit Head: Human Resources Management.

The Employer of the Year is an addition to other awards received by the CDC, which include the South Africa’s Investor of the Year (the dti’s SA Premier Business Awards 2019), Exporter of the Year, and Top Employer in SA: Public Sector (the Top Employer’s Institute 2019).

Coega is the number one SEZ in Africa and certainly potential investors should look no further for their investment needs.

Efforts at Coega Development Corporation recognised

The Employer of the Year Award recognises organisations that prioritise socio-economic & sustainable growth as well as increased employment, which speaks to the CDC’s vision as the catalysts for championing socio-economic development.

“In so far as the competitiveness of the category, the CDC faced stiff competition from the likes of Nielsen South Africa and Sernick Group,” said Dr Ayanda Vilakazi, CDC’s Head of Marketing, Brand and Communications.

The panel of adjudicators comprised of experienced people, including Mpho Ledwaba (Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at JSE), Thulisile Manzini (Chief Executive Officer of Brand SA), Tumelo Seaketso (Director Consulting Human Capital at Deloitte), Tebogo Maenetja (Chief HR Officer of MTN Group), Keeran Kowlaser (Senior Policy Analyst at Sasol), and Godfrey Vatsha (Managing Director at NBC Holdings), just to mention a few.

“As the CDC we are quite pleased with this prestigious award. It has been a year filled with difficulties, often swimming against the tide and acknowledgements of this nature are fulfilling to our employees and stakeholders who continue to support us.

“We look forward to defending the award next year,” concludes Dr. Vilakazi.
